Still within our 24hrs we used the train to get from Bayonne to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port.

Firstly though we had to make an early start, well early for us, and a quick dash from our hotel to the station.

The train wound it’s way through the valley to SJPP and as usual we chose the wrong side to sit and missed most of the best views.

At SJPP we immediately made our way to the Pilgrim’s Office, we had the advantage over the other walkers as we knew exactly where we were headed.

Having obtained our walkers passport and an update on the track conditions to Rocesvalles, we headed back towards the station to find the supermarket and some snacks for on the way.

The walk up to Orisson was mainly on the road and was a good start for unprepared walkers like us.
