Biking Adventures in Virginia.

Today started with us waking up amidst dense clouds and mist, which might have contributed to our slow morning, though the allure of internet access certainly played a role too. Despite the late start, we finally left camp around 10 am. As we descended from the mountains, the day gradually cleared up.

Our destination for the day was a town called Galax in Virginia, where we planned to explore a rail trail. Upon arriving, we visited the visitor center for some recommendations. They suggested we stay in the nearby town of Fries (pronounced “freeze”). Opting for comfort, we settled in at a rather pricey but well-equipped RV park, complete with full hookups, WiFi, and convenient access to the cycle path.

Though ominous clouds loomed overhead, we decided to take a chance and set off on our bikes. Despite having only ridden them once before, we were eager to hit the trail. The route wound alongside a picturesque river, offering us a pleasant ride. While the full trail stretched for 57 miles, we opted for a shorter journey, riding for just over an hour before turning back.

Despite the warm and humid weather, which we’re slowly growing accustomed to thanks to our time in Texas, the experience was thoroughly enjoyable. It felt good to be back on our bikes, soaking in the sights and sounds of the trail.
