Today we’re going for a walk at Maungakawa Reserve. On the way we’re meeting up with Jo’s sister in Cambridge.
Unusual for us we were early so decided to take a walk to Cambridge Lake, then it was off to sister Lynda’s to meet up with her and a couple of her grand children.
So it was then a short 20 min. drive to the reserve.
Maungakawa Reserve used to be the site of a TB sanatorium for service men returning from the great war, there is however no signs of the sanatorium remaining today.
The reserve has several walking tracks around the hill, used by residents of the sanatorium when trying to get back to health.
We followed in their footsteps finding a view point with views over the Waikato to Hamilton, the white buildings of the hospital standing out on the horizon.
The kids also found a swing made out of vines.
We finished the walk off by driving to the top of the hill for a fantastic view across to the sea at Waihi Beach and even down to Mount Ngauruhoe. On a good day even Mount Taranaki is viewable.
