Today on our road trip it’s a short drive to Dickeys Flat in the Karangahake gorge.
Here there is tent camping on the grass area a d camper / caravan in the carpark. The last 200 metres of the drive us on a dirt road.
After managing to secure the last spot in the carpark we off on a walk.
We headed north through the campground and picked up the track heading off to the window walk. Unfortunately we didn’t do our research and we came across an 180 track tunnel. This was cut out by miners and isn’t lit.
So we turned around noting to bring a torch next time.
Our changed walk entailed retracing our steps partway then taking the gorge walk over the hill. Again another mistake as we hadn’t kept up our fitness and ran out of stamina before reaching our desired destination. So another u-turn and back to Justin.
Hot and sticky the only choice was a swim in the river.
Remind me not to trust Jo, as it wasn’t warm. Refreshing yes, warm no.
