As usual we were last to leave. We’re not sure where the time went but it was gone by the time we hit the road.

We stopped off at Gisborne to resupply and to visit the iSite for information on freedom camping in the area. We were informed to lock the car at night if we stopped locally and further up the coast there was only one freedom camping area and that the others were by permit only.

Being undecided as usual we purchased a 2 night permit for $17 to start from the following evening, meaning we would free camp in town or just up the road.

However on seeing both sites we decided to move on and ended up at a paid campsite at Tolaga Bay Wharf.

Before arriving there we nearly ran over Dave from Sidney, who had stopped along the way for a kite surf.
